TGM Designs created this glossary of web design and related terminology to help our clients to know and understand what services we provide. The terms cited are used regularly throughout Web development and design documentation. If you are starting a new website project then you will find these terms very helpful. This glossary's intention is to be relevant and beneficial to your understanding rather than be comprehensive.

E-Business

The processes and tools that allow an organization to use Internet-based technologies and infrastructure, both internally and externally, to conduct day to day business process operations.

E-Commerce

Electronic Commerce is the process of buying and selling products or services, or the movement of funds via electronic means such as web browsers, telephones, mobile phones, PDAs, Etc.

E-MAIL

Acronym for Electronic Mail (E-mail). Usually text formatted messages that are sent from one user to another via a computer.

E-MAIL ADDRESS

An address used for sending e-mails to another user. The typical format is 'username@domain.com'.

ELEMENT

An XHTML term, an element is a node in the document tree. They are represented by the H1 tags.

EMBEDDED STYLE SHEET

A Cascading Style Sheet that is embedded in the head of the HTML or like document in the form of a embedded link. Embedded stylesheets are used to help cut the time of page load down and keep page files smaller.

EMOTIONS

Font combinations as shortcuts to portray emotion or expressions. These come in many different types of forms. [Example: Happy - :) :-) ^_^ n_n =) XD ]

ENCRYPTION

The process of turning data into code for security measures. Encryption is used when valuable information is sent across the Internet such as credit card numbers.

ERROR 404

When this error shows up in your web browser it means that the page you requested was not found on the server.

EXPORT

To save a file in a different format. Example: exporting a Microsoft Word document into a Adobe PDF document.

E-ZINE or EZINE

A term for electronic magazine. It is a name of a website in whom's format is modeled after a print magazine. It is only available online or through e-mail.
