  • JPEG

    Acronym for Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG). JPEG is a format for image files. It's most commonly known for digital photographs and 3-D images that require a continuous range of colors and shades.

    JSP

    Acronym for Java Server Page (JSP). Java Server Pages are an extention to the Java technology developed by Sun Mircosystems. JSPs have dynamic scripting capabilities that works with HTML code, separating the design and HTML of the page (static) with the logics of the page (extra programming). It was originally created as an alternative to Microsoft's ASP (Active Server Pages).

    JAVA

    A programming language developed by Sun Microsystems based on C++ programming. Java is a network oriented programming language specially designed for writing programs that are safe to download from the Internet and run. Small java programs are called "Applets". Most of these come in the form of animations, calculators and other fancy tricks.

    JAVASCRIPT

    Though mostly mistaken for Java, Javascript is not Java. Javascripts are used for creating such things as pop up windows, webpage rollovers and other animated fuctions.

    JMS

    Java messaging service is the standard API for sending and receiving messages.

    JMX

    Acronym for Java Management Extensions. JMX is a Java technology that supplies tools for managing and monitoring applications, system objects, devices (e.g. printers) and service oriented networks. An interesting detail of the API is that classes can be dynamically constructed and changed.

    Joomla!

    An open source content management system for publishing content on the world wide web and intranets. The system includes features such as page caching to improve performance, RSS feeds, printable versions of pages, news flashes, blogs, polls, website searching, and language internationalization. Joomla is licensed under the GPL, and is the result of a fork of Mambo. Learn More...
